You Decide
This is where your knowledge of Aviation Navigation meets the real
world! Below
you will find a scenario that places your team in the middle of a real world
problem and gives you and your team members specific roles to play. You and
your team members must solve this problem by reviewing all the
pertinent information
and making the best decision possible. You must follow the steps
in the decision-making
process and you must be thorough in your work because others are
depending on
you and your team to come up with a decision that gives the
greatest benefits.
These decisions are not easy and your decision will not please
everyone. However,
a well-reasoned and sound decision needs to be made and you and
your team members
will need to make that critical decision.
First, review the steps in the decision-making process. Print the
decision-making
process page including the matrix you will use to record the steps
you follow
in arriving at your decision. Next, review the problem scenario.
This explains
the problem that you are going to solve. It also provides you with a list of
resources you may use in solving the problem. Just as in real life, some of
these resources may be critical to your decision. Other resources
may be only
somewhat applicable. And some of the resources may not apply to the problem
at all. An important part of the decision-making process is what information
is relevant, and what is not!
After you have made and recorded your decision, discuss and compare your decision with others in your class. You will be given a chance to compare your decision-making skills with the experts who have made similar decisions to such a problem. Experts in the fields related to Aviation Navigation reviewed the scenario and came up with what they believe to be the three best possible decisions. After you decide, check your decision-making skills with the experts!
